WATCH! Van Persie mobbed by Fenerbahce fans as he seals move

first_imgRobin van Persie was mobbed by Fenerbahce fans on Sunday as the striker flew in to Istanbul to complete his move from Manchester United. The 31-year-old was putting the finishing touches to his switch to the Turkish club and is expected to be officially unveiled on Monday.Van Persie opted to make the move after being informed he is not part of Louis van Gaal’s plans at Old Trafford. The Dutchman cost United £24million from Arsenal in 2012 and fired 30 goals to help the club win the Premier League in his first season. His impact since then, however, has been muted due to a series of niggling injuries, and he was limited to 10 goals in 29 appearances under compatriot Van Gaal last season. His former teammate Rio Ferdinand, however, still believes he will go down as one of United’s greatest ever strikers. In a post on Facebook, Ferdinand wrote: “He was actually a better player than I thought he was when he arrived at Manchester United – I had played against him many times vs Arsenal, so I knew he was good but not this good.“Maybe that was because he was up against me and Vida [Namanja Vidic] though!! On a serious note though, I think that was the general thought through the squad too.“As a player he is so silky to watch, great touch, can hold the ball up & bring others into play, timings of his runs, skills & a dream of a left foot….oh and he can finish!”last_img read more
