Draymond Green pushes back on criticism surrounding DeMarcus Cousins’ defense

first_imgOAKLAND – For a man who usually loves talking trash, Draymond Green became agitated over all the punchlines and commentary surrounding DeMarcus Cousins’ recent defense. In the Warriors’ 122-105 victory over the Denver Nuggets on Friday at Oracle Arena, Cousins finished with 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting along with six blocks and three steals in 28 minutes. Are We at the Center of the Universe?

first_imgAn alternative cosmology that doesn’t require dark energy may have the effect of putting the Milky Way near the center of the universe.  That’s not the only interpretation, but it is being considered.    Space.com reported on work by mathematicians at UC Davis who solved Einstein’s field equations without dark energy.  If the big bang produced ripples in space-time, it could give the illusion that the universal expansion is accelerating without actual acceleration.  “One potential issue with this idea is that it might require a big coincidence,” Space.com said: “For the universe to appear to be accelerating at the same rate in all directions, we in the Milky Way would have to be near a local center, at the spot where an expansion wave was initiated early in the Big Bang when the universe was filled with radiation.”  Blake Temple of UC Davis acknowledged that it may look coincidental, but may reflect local conditions from our vantage point.    Still, National Geographic News seemed alarmed by the suggestion.  This violation of the Copernican Principle (the idea that all observers in the universe get the same large-scale view) would be a “hard pill to swallow.”  It will take more work before the evidence in favor of dark energy is overthrown.  Space.com, on the other hand, called dark energy a “hasty fix to an inconvenient truth” in the 1990s – the discovery that distant supernovae were dimmer than expected and must be accelerating from us.  Temple argued that dark energy looked like a fudge factor.  That’s why the UC Davis team tried to find an alternative cosmology without it.  Meanwhile, as Science Daily reported, most astronomers are working hard to find the mysterious dark energy.Dark energy and dark matter continue to be offered as occult phenomena that bind the consensus assumptions of cosmology together.  They serve no explanatory function.  What good is it to say that Mysterious Unknown Stuff (MUST) must exist? (02/28/2008).  Any storyteller can say that to prove anything.  Science is supposed to observe and measure things.  Let them work on that before expecting us to accept their placeholder for ignorance much longer.    If it turns out our galaxy is near some kind of privileged location, that would be interesting, but does Christian theology require it?  No; our significance to God is not a function of our coordinates.  There are already so many “cosmic coincidences” that make our universe, galaxy, star and planet unique (watch The Privileged Planet), we don’t need another one that puts man at point zero in sector zero in quadrant zero in the big scheme of things (if there even is a way to measure a center, considering the intertwined relationships of light and time).  Creation physicist Dr. Russell Humphreys has argued from quantized redshifts that our galaxy must be near the center of the universe.  Even so, he does not claim that we are at the exact center.  But if we are not at the exact center, it would raise all kinds of additional questions – why not?    The center might not be a good place to be, anyway.  We obviously don’t want to be at the center of the Milky Way (too crowded), or at the center of the sun (too hot), or at the center of the earth (too dark).  A comfortable place in the suburbs works out just fine so long as we can live, move, and have our being.  What matters is not living near the civic center of the universe, but near the rescue mission.  We want to be where a Savior was coming (Galatians 4:4-5).(Visited 54 times, 1 visits today)FacebookTwitterPinterestSave分享0last_img read more

INFOGRAPHIC: With New Mobile Rates, There Are Now 10 Million Ways to Pay for a Cell Phone

first_imgThe Rise and Rise of Mobile Payment Technology Why IoT Apps are Eating Device Interfaces Role of Mobile App Analytics In-App Engagement Related Posts jolie odellcenter_img Tags:#mobile#web After AT&T and Verizon announced new mobile rates this past weekend, many users were happy to hear that the cost of voice calls would be reduced for two major American carriers.Today, the restructured mobile plans and packages went into effect, but the costs, benefits and corporate revenues aren’t as simple as a few saved dollars for cell phone calls. In a word, what all gadget geeks, tech-heads and mobile users know is that data is one of the more costly – and ever more popular – aspects of any user’s mobile plan. As smartphone adoption increases, how do major carriers’ plans stack up to one another? Our good friend (and startup BillShrink rep) Tony Adam wrote today in a blog post, “The real truth behind the story is that the profits are in the data: Verizon’s revenue is now up 24% (they reported $15.8 billion in Q309), with 17% coming from data services.”To put it bluntly, we’re all texting, emailing, tweeting and updating constantly – who even has time for a phone call these days? The laws of supply and demand state that as demand for voice services wanes and the public consumption of mobile data services rises, corporations will realize that it’s worth their while to create a false economic incentive for voice packages while maintaining and increasing rates for data packages. The tricky part, then, becomes stripping away the marketing-ese, the convoluted packaging structures and the hard-pitch sales routines that go along with them to determine how users can get the best fitting data and voice plans. Thanks to BillShrink’s unwavering focus (and they said the process behind this achievement was “painful… the carriers didn’t make it easy”), we have a concise, clear infographic on how mobile plans and rates from Verizon, AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile all measure up to one another. Or at least we have a start: Based on data they collected, the BillShrink folks estimate there are now 10 million ways to structure a cell phone plan.To see the full-size, fully detailed infographic, check out BillShrink’s large version. For example, Verizon and Sprint are currently asking $119 for unlimited voice, text and smartphone data plans, while T-Mobile and Sprint’s equivalents ring in at $20 less per month. In fact, just about all the plans from these four carriers are identical until you start to factor in text messaging and mobile Web browsing, at which point Verizon and AT&T start to charge more than their competitors. As smartphones and superphones take over the market, do you think we’ll see more network-agnostic devices? And with more network-agnostic smartphones sucking up more mobile 3G bandwidth, do you think all carriers will raise their pricing for data and text packages?Let us know what you think in the comments. Appsfire Tracks Hot Apps with AppTrends

first_imgTags:#Product Reviews#web A Web Developer’s New Best Friend is the AI Wai… Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting 8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Market Related Posts Why Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… It’s been 75 silent days since iPhone app sharing service Appsfire submitted version 2.0 to Apple for entry into the App Store, but in the meantime, the company has released a new way of finding apps. Instead of solely relying on recommendations from friends, Appsfire now offers recommendations on your next downloads with a popular app tracker called AppTrends. The introduction of AppTrends comes alongside announcements that ex-Jaiku co-founder Jyri Engestrom has joined on as an adviser and that the company has received a new round of funding from Lerer Ventures. AppTrends is the first live ranking of iPhone apps outside of the App Store, according to the company. The rankings are determined by looking at Twitter and seeing what apps people are talking about most. The service looks at iTunes URLs (even those shrunk using URL shorteners like Bit.ly) contained in tweets, ranking not only by the number of mentions but also by the influence of the Twitter user. The list of apps, which currently sits at 20 but will soon expand to 100, updates every hour and shows how apps have moved up or down in the listing in the last one, 12 and 24 hours. In addition to the listing, clicking on each app will show what people are saying about it on Twitter. For each, a link is provided to preview the app, read a description and download or buy the app. mike melanson Aside from offering a list of what’s hot to the consumer, AppTrends also looks to provide insight to app developers on why their app is moving up or down in the listing, by seeing what people are saying about the app. According to the company, the App Store ranking is “updated at best once a day” and AppTrends has shown trends quicker than the App Store on several occasions. For now, the site is just a list of 20 top apps, but soon it will include localization with rankings by country, rankings by category (such as games or health and fitness), access to a history of app rankings and notifications for developers. Part of what we like most about this new service is that it offers some insight behind why something is popular, beyond Apple says so. Looking at how apps move up and down within the rankings, and being able to see why, is a step beyond a simple list of top downloads. Beyond that, we hope that looking at tweets might move past those simple app rankings provided in the App store, which we can’t help but look at with suspicion. AppTrends is live as of today and already showing the hot of the hot. At the top of today’s list? The just-released Hulu Plus, of course. last_img read more

Fire officials in Saskatchewan dont know what caused blaze that killed two

first_imgThe Canadian Press LOON LAKE, Sask. _ Fire officials say they don’t know what caused the blaze that killed two children on a northern Saskatchewan reserve last week.Two-year-old Harley Cheenanow and his 18-month-old sister, Haley, died after the fire broke out at their grandmother’s house. The volunteer fire department in nearby Loon Lake was called but didn’t respond, because service to the reserve had been cut weeks earlier over unpaid bills.Investigators said Wednesday the source of the fire can’t be determined because of the  “complete burn” nature of the blaze.“(We) have confirmed that a battery-operated smoke detector was in the home at the time of the fire, but it is not known if it was in normal working condition,” said a statement from Emergency Management and Fire Services.RCMP officers were the only first responders that showed up to help as the fire raged. The grandmother managed to get out alive but the children, carried out of the burning home by their father, died at the scene.Chief Richard Ben of the Makwa Sahgaiehcan First Nation has said his reserve has a working fire truck, but they don’t have enough money for proper equipment or to train crews to use it.Perry Bellegarde, national chief of the Assembly of First Nations, said in a letter to the federal government last week that First Nations receive insufficient funding to ensure a safe and healthy environment. He said the situation has reached a “critical level” and asked for a meeting with Aboriginal Affairs Minister Bernard Valcourt.Valcourt has said Makwa Sahgaiehcan, like all other reserves, gets sufficient funding for fire services and it’s up to band officials to decide how the money is spent. In his letter, Bellegarde also said the government policy that caps annual funding increases for First Nations at two percent needs to change.“The lifting of the two per cent cap and replacing it with an appropriate escalator is a good place to start,” he wrote.Valcourt’s office has indicated the minister has agreed to meet with Bellegarde.(The Canadian Press)last_img read more
