Two charged for murder of Trinidad cop

first_imgNyasha Joseph A male associate of a Trinidadian policewoman along with a female have been charged with her murder.The cop, Constable Nyasha Joseph, went missing two weeks ago. Her body was found last week in the ocean off the eastern Caribbean islandThe two accused persons are expected to appear before a Port of Spain magistrate for a preliminary hearing.The 36-year-old man, who is from Sea Lots, Port of Spain, and the 36-year-old woman, from Carenage, were charged on Sunday after a magistrate issued instructions to police investigators following consultations with Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Roger Gaspard.The man was charged with murder, as well as the unlawful disposal of Joseph’s body, while the woman is facing a murder charge.Last Thursday, the male suspect, through his attorney Christon J Williams, filed a writ of habeas corpus in the Port of Spain High Court, challenging his detention since March 10, but the police argued before Justice Nadia Kangaloo that they needed more time.Following the discovery of Joseph’s body, Trinidad and Tobage Prime Minister, Keith Rowley, openly expressed his preference for the death penalty for persons found guilty of murder.last_img read more
