Man United deal: Is this man worth £120,000 per week?

first_img Is David De Gea worth £120,000 per week amid reports he is about to receive a bumper new £30m contract over 5 years. De Gea has the fewest errors leading to goals (1) in the previous two seasons. The Spaniard endured a torrid first season in England, mired with mistakes, but the former Atletico Madrid man has improved year-on-year and his performance against Everton prior to the international break highlighted the 23-year-old’s talent. However, De Gea has also conceded the second most number goals (79) out of the five ‘keepers, but given United’s poor and ever changing defence that is unsurprising. And had it not been for the Spaniard last season, United may well have finished lower than seventh. Is De Gea worth £120,000 per week? The Spaniard has his best years in front of him, has dealt with adversity following United’s abysmal season last year and was one of the few to come out of that campaign with his head held high. And with a settled back four in front of him, the clean sheets will increase and the new found responsibility for his country could enable the Spaniard to further mature. There are always areas of improvement and De Gea still needs to work on claiming balls from set-pieces and commanding his box, but he’s is the ideal man to continue United’s history of great goalkeepers following Peter Schmeichel and Edwin Van Der Sar.Football fans, do you think David De Gea is worth £120,000 per week? If you had the choice which one would you like to see at your club? Comment below… The significance of David De Gea becoming Spain’s goalkeeper in last Sunday’s European Championship qualifier against Luxembourg seemingly was not lost on the powers that be at Manchester United. The 23-year-old, who was the Red Devils’ Player of the Year last season, replaced veteran captain Iker Casillas, and reports suggest the Spaniard is line for a bumper new £30m contract at Old Trafford which would boost his weekly wages to £120,000 on a five-year deal. After a shaky first season in English football, De Gea has gone on to establish himself as one of the best young keepers in world football. With that in mind, talkSPORT compares his performances with Joe Hart, Simon Mignolet, Petr Cech and Wojciech Szczesny, from the 2012/13 Premier League season onward, to see if the Spaniard is worth the new deal. 2 2last_img read more
